MATTHEW 18:15-17 is often cited by church leaders as dispositive biblical instruction for resolving conflicts among those who profess faith in Christ. Regrettably, however, few seem to recognize that the guidance offered in Matthew 18 is not presented in isolation from the abundance of other relevant instruction offered by the rest of scripture. Consequently, the framework presented in Matthew 18 is too often applied ineffectively, or even inappropriately, often with disastrous outcomes.
This book takes readers BEYOND MATTHEW 18 to help them gain a more complete understanding of conflict and biblical conflict resolution, including:
· The causes and origins of conflict among Christ followers
· Why those who profess faith in Christ often experience conflict in disproportionate measure
· The differences between “disagreement” and “conflict”
· The biblical principles that must guide the Matthew 18 processes
· Deciding when to pursue resolution of a conflict… and when to simply forgive and move on
· How to evaluate and prepare one’s own heart for conflict resolution efforts
· Alternative dispute resolution models that parallel and complement Matthew 18 guidance
· And, of course, a detailed exposition of the processes highlighted in Matthew 18
Ultimately, this book provides the reader and practitioner the opportunity to draw from multiple conflict resolution disciplines and guidance in a manner that is consistent with and under the authority of biblical directives.
